Shailene Woodley Arrested For Protesting Pipeline As Ansel Elgort, Mark Ruffalo And John Green Show Support
The actress was live streaming on Facebook at the time.
Shailene Woodley was arrested on Monday (October 10) as she protested the Dakota Access pipeline with her mother.
The Fault In Our Stars actress was live streaming the 'peaceful' events in Sioux County, North Dakota, when she was handcuffed and charged with 'trespassing and engaging in a riot'.
In a Facebook live clip Shailene claims it was only because she's famous that she got caught, telling over 40,000 viewers the real story.
"I was walking back to my RV which is right there, so that we can go back to camp peacefully,' she told fans shortly before she was handcuffed," she explains.
"And they grabbed me by my jacket and they said that I wasn’t allowed to continue and they have giant guns and batons and zip ties. And they’re not letting me go."
"But why am I being arrested and no one else is who was down there?" Shailene asked the officers. "Is it because I’m famous? Is it because people know who I am?"
While her efforts didn't go unnoticed among her fellow actor activists, as the likes of Ansel Elgort, Mark Ruffalo and John Green showed their support.
