We were lucky enough to catch up with the rising stars this week.

Check it out below...

1) for those who don’t know about you and your music, tell us a little bit about who you are and where you’re from

We’re Shame and we’re from south London. We all met at school and formed the band above the Queen’s Head pub in Brixton where we did some of our earliest shows.

2) describe your sound in three words…

Not half bad.

3) who or what inspired you to start a career in music?

I think our individual musical backgrounds inspired us all to pursue music long term, that and the fact that we’re not qualified to do anything else.

4) who are your biggest musical influences?

As a band, we’ve got quite different individual tastes and influences but some bands that we all collectively take influence from include acts like The Fall, Eddy Current Suppression Ring and The Stooges to name a few.

5) tell us about the writing and recording process for your new music…

The writing process doesn’t have any strict formula, we’re quite democratic with the way we create music. Any one person might come up with a riff which then gets developed and eventually becomes a song. It can take an hour or a month.

6) what can we expect from your live shows?

At our live shows, you can expect a display of egotistical bravado and minor breakages.

7) what has been your biggest career highlight so far?

It’s difficult to pinpoint one highlight of our career but when we performed to about 7,000 people at Pitchfork Paris that was pretty insane. Hard to top that.

8)have you ever met anyone and been totally starstruck?

I didn’t properly meet him but I walked past Johnny Depp at Glastonbury which was weird. When I told everyone about it they thought I was making it up but then we saw him swanning about the next night with Brad Pitt and David Beckham.

9) what’s on your ipod/playlists that people wouldn’t expect?

Lots of industrial techno.

10) when can we next see you live?

You can next see us in London at our biggest headliner ever at the Electric Ballroom on April 18th.

11) when is the debut album out and what can we expect from it?

Our debut album 'Songs of Praise' is out January 12th via Dead Oceans. People can expect a few surprises. A couple of tracks might catch you off guard. Hope that’s a good thing.
