Shawn Mendes has spoken out about the news of Teddy Geiger’s transition, expressing his unwavering support for his longtime friend and collaborator.
The Stitches singer was at Spotify’s Secret Genius Awards earlier this week in LA, where, alongside fellow songwriter Scott Harris, he told Billboard that they’re there for him every step of the way.

Shawn explained that they’ll do “anything we can" to support Teddy, adding: "Be a friend first off and that's kind of all we're thinking of.”
“[People should] support and love and be there however you can, because it kind of is a hard thing to figure out how to support and remember they’re your friend," he continued. "There’s no difference.”
Okay yes so Shawn Mendes really is the best friend anyone could ask for.
This comes after Teddy previously told fans on Instagram that he’d started transitioning, with an outpouring of support following soon after.
“Okay…because u asked nicely… I am transitioning. I started talking about it with a couple of my close friends and family about a month ago and it’s given me the courage to start the process. I feel like the next step is to tell y’all. So here goes. Love it or hate this is who I have been for a looooong time. I love u guys. Talk sooooon byeeee.”
You’ve probably listened to loads of Teddy’s work before without realising it, as he’s actually partly responsible for tracks such as Mercy, Stitches and Treat You Better.
Previously chatting about the connection the three of them have when it comes to writing music, Shawn told MTV: "There's this thing that I think that we really connect on that level, where they both kind of really understood what it was like to be the singer and be the performer."
