Gay Club Scene Cut From Sherlock
Stag night scene featuring Sherlock and Watson in gay club was cut from series three of drama...
Speaking in an Apple Store Q&A session, the stars confirmed that they had shot a scene which saw them surrounded by topless men, looking confused for the second episode of series three - The Sign of Three.
Freeman explained: "I regret there was one bit of that drunk stuff that was missing, and that was the gay club scene. When we were absolutely mullered in the gay club!
"There were lots of topless men going past, and [Sherlock and John] are just like, 'Why are we here?'"
The relationship between Holmes and Watson has been the subject of many theories about a homosexual subtext over the years, and Holmes' sexuality is left unresolved in Arthur Conan Doyle's books and in most adaptations.
Cumberbatch added: "I [Sherlock] had no idea why they didn't have their clothes on, and eventually it dawned on me, and my grounding shook."
And the actor - who this week also appears in a Sesame Street clip - has suggested that he'll be happy to stay with Sherlock as long as he's happy with the quality of the show.
He told USA Today: "I'll keep doing it as long as [Sherlock grows], as long as I feel he's developing and there's stuff we're all being challenged by and that it's being loyal to the original stories as well."
Asked if the show had helped his career, he replied that it has "done a lot".
And he explained: "I won't say it's changed my life, because I had a huge break at the same time as this role first came to fruition."
