The 23 year old beat 3000 hopefuls and impressed judges Trevor Nelson, Emma Griffiths and Alesha Dixon to earn herself the much coveted MTV News Presenter contract.
Before her whirlwind year, Laura grew up in Bray Co. Wicklow – just south of Dublin, Ireland. She went to Loreto Secondary School in Bray where she won Cultural Student of the year in her final year for her involvement in drama, music, French, English and Irish debating.
She studied Journalism for four years at Dublin City University as well as completing a semester abroad at Boston University in the States.
At DCU, she was actively involved in university life and was Equality Officer on the Students Union and was Editor of student magazine ‘Look’ - which was nominated for an Irish Student Media Award - as well as being involved on the university newspaper ‘The College View’, DCU Drama Society, DCU FM radio station and DCU TV.
She worked part time in East Coast radio in Wicklow learning the tricks of the trade before interning at Newstalk National Radio Station.
She researched and reported for many of the shows in Newstalk before becoming permanent on award winning ‘Lunchtime with Eamon Keane’.
After making an impact on MTV with her application via myspace in December 2007, she was hauled over to London where she really got to prove her mettle - on the red carpet with stars such as Matt Damon and Jonathan Ross!
Last May, she left Ireland for the big bright lights of London and has been presenting MTV News alongside Rickie Haywood Williams ever since.
In the last year she has travelled to LA for the VMA’s and Movie Awards, Oya Rock Festival in Norway, Ibiza Rocks, Iceland and The Phillippines.
She now joins Rickie and MTV’s newest recruit, Melvin Odoom, on the couch for MTV Digs every weekday from 4pm -7pm on MTV One.
Her favourite cheese is stichelton.
