Simon Cowell Quit Idol Through Boredom
The judge tells Oprah Winfrey he knew his 'time was up'...
In an interview with the legendary chat show host, Cowell revealed: "You just know that time's up. "It feels like the right thing to do."
"I remember the first year when we did this, and it was like an adventure, and I loved that, not knowing if it would be successful, and the buzz, [and] we were kind of making it up every week."
He added: "I loved that buzz. It was fun. I've always promised myself I would leave before I was forced to go. After a while, you start to go on automatic pilot. Too many times I was sitting there [at the judges' table] bored. The audience deserves more than that ... and I can't hide when I'm bored."
Cowell also explained his plans to takeX Factor Stateside saying: "It's different because there's no upper age limit. ... Singing groups can enter the show,"
He continued: "I have no idea whether it's going to work or not, but I'll put its success and failure on whether we can find a star."
Simon who was 'on location' in LA chatting to Winfrey later confessed his happiness at being engaged to make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy.
The talent show judge said: "It's good, because I've never been very good at relationships to be honest with you...I've been friends with all my exes so that's worked well. But I never thought I would be with one person, and now I think I will."
