Simon Cowell Says Sorry To One Direction Over Zayn Malik Joke
We never knew 1D could stay so cool and composed...
During last week's Music Industry Trust Awards, Simon Cowell told a totally awkward joke.
When accepting an award from the One Direction boys, he'd had a few drinks beforehand and - OMG - he mentioned the Z-word!
"Just my luck I get the award I've been wanting all my life and I'm completely hammered. Guys, who misses Zayn?"
OH. THE. HORROR.
But he's since come out and apologised for the comment, insisting it was a harmless joke. Speaking to New York's Fresh 102.7, he explained and said sorry for embarrassing the boys.
"I just kind of thought when I was standing on stage with them, that they were back to being five, and I saw myself [being a part of] One Direction for a moment."
"That's when I made that quip, "Who needs Zayn?" which of course backfired hugely. So I apologise to any Zayn fans out there – it was meant as a joke," the X Factor judge said.
Fans felt totes awks when he said it but the boys seemed completely unfazed and didn't react when he mentioned Zayn - how professional of them!
