Simon Cowell wasn't exactly jumping for joy when he found outthat Zayn Malik wanted to quit One Direction, and we're not surprised!

The music mogul admitted on The Late Late Show With James Corden last night that although he was shocked, he kind of had an inkling that it was on the horizon.

"I was just about to jump off a cliff," Cowelladmitted when Corden asked where he was when he found out.

"I was in Miami. I kind of knew this was coming if I'm being honest with you. We had a few conversations - he wasn't happy and I was trying to say to him, 'Look, I think you should stay around a bit longer,' and then something in him just said, 'No I've had enough,' and then once the decision was made I dealt with it, and obviously made sure the guys were OK, because they were shocked as well."

He added: "I'd seen him in person as well, but once someone has made their mind up, they're going to go.

"But also at the same time, I don't want to push him too much because he's 22 and I could see that he was a bit stressed and he wanted some time off and I had to respect his decision."

Though he praised the rest of the band for continuing like professionals with thetour.

"For the boys it was interesting because they were in the middle of these live shows at the time.

"Then I watched the show back and they were incredible. I have a feeling they are going to deliver the best record they have ever made."
