Simon Pegg Opens Up About Star Trek Beyond
Plot points ahoy…
2016 marks 50 years of Star Trek, and to celebrate, Paramount Pictures are releasing the next in their string of sci-fi blockbusters, Star Trek Beyond.
Directed by Fast & Furious staple, Justin Lin, and co-written by the UK’s very own Simon Pegg, details of what fate await the crew of the USS Enterprise have been fairly hazy, until now.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, Pegg, who plays Scotty alongside Chris Pine’s Kirk, Zacahry Quinto’s Spock, Zoe Saldana’s Uhura and Karl Urban’s “Bones” McCoy, has shone some light on the state of affairs in the Star Trek galaxy.
“They’ve come to rest at a Federation outpost, a sort of diplomatic hub,” says Pegg. But, their momentary serenity is quickly shattered by Idris Elba’s blue-faced bad guy, Krall, who decides to use the USS Enterprise as his punching bag, venting his frustration with the Federation. Though it seems as though their struggle will come from within as well…
Pegg asks the question at the heart of Star Trek Beyond: “What’s the point of it all? We’re gathering a great community within the galaxy, but to what end? What does it all mean?”
Sounds pretty, prettyyyyy deep (space nine). And you know what, we can’t wait!
