Snoop Dogg's The King At Bestival

REVIEW: The rapping rasta brings the West Coast party to the Isle Of Wight…

Feeling: With the rains having moved on for the evening there was a huge turnout at the mainstage for the Doggfather, with the massive crowd stretching all the way up to the Big Top.
The hyped-up audience were definitely in the mood to party, with Snoop's DJ and live band ensuring excitement levels were ramped up before the man himself had even set foot on stage.

The Look
: A huge image of Snoop's grinning head flanked the stage during the warm up, with a colour scheme based around the rasta colours of red gold and green.
Snoop wore a typically simple outfit of leather jacket, t-shirt and Adidas tracksuit bottoms, accessorised with dark sunglasses and his trademark blinged-out microphone.
As well as his DJ, live Snoopadelics band and hype men, Snoop was joined onstage by a trio of feisty female dancers - as well as a living embodiment of his Nasty Dogg mascot.
Tunes: After taking the stage to Here Comes The King, Snoop proceeded to barrel through a hit-packed set drawing from every stage of his career.
Early West Coast G-Funk classics like What's My Name? and Gin And Juice were mixed with club bangers like Drop It Like It's Hot and singsongs such as Young Wild And Free.
Things got a bit too syrupy for the crowd with the schlocky Sensual Seduction, but the D-O Double G swiftly won them back with a storming take on House Of Pain's classic Jump Around.
Banter: Snoop was his usual self, extolling the virtues of "Smoking, drinking, and getting f**ked up" - and while his patter wasn't exactly original it was what the crowd expected from him, and were thrilled to hear (with the possible exception of him referring to the Isle Of Wight as "London, England").
Special Guests: Other than his own band and backing dancers there were no other guests, but with a personality as big as Snoop on stage why would you need any?
Sweat Factor: Despite some sound issues the huge crowd were kept hyped-up pretty much thought, with steam rising into the cool night air.
Summary: Snoop is an old pro at giving a crowd what they want, and while the Doggfather throws up few surprises onstage these days he closed the night as a conquering Lion.
