Feeling: One big charitable house party as big name acts joined the remix kings at the intimate East London event in Shoreditch. The Dewaele brothers doing what they do best, sparking the rave with impressive selections. Like a late-night secret disco the tunes went on way into the night, the crowd less than a foot away from the stage and the bar, smiles all round with cocktails proving popular from the Oxjam bar.

 

 

Tunes: Everything and anything the brothers had managed to get their hands on from their record dig. Those expecting an eclectic mix from the duo were not disappointed as the dance royal responsible for remixes of everyone from David Bowie to the Rolling Stones via Klaxons. Elsewhere on the night came a DJ set from London locals, The Invisible whose leading man, Dave Okumu, has produced for Jessie Ware. The DJs were in high demand and played two sets on the night and getting the crowd well in the mood.

 

This was no night for solo acts as NYPC (formerly New Young Pony Club) entertained the crowd with material both new and old including their latest track, Hard Knocks and the Nu Rave dance floor classic, Ice Cream. Oxford based, Chad Valley also took to the stage with their unique blend of electronica and indie. SBTRKT and AlunaGeorge fans might want to take note.

 

Sweat Factor: The bar came in handy as the crowd of around 60-strong plus everyone playing squeezed into the venue, the air at times almost Amazonian, mojitos most definitely came in handy.

 

Special Guests: The evening was hosted by the lovely Lauren Laverne who kept the crowd laughing and made short work of the intervals between bands. The energetic radio host couldn’t have been more charming.

 

Summary: All in all a fantastic night, all the better in knowing that everyone there was partying in the name of a good cause, all acts were on fine form and party-goers were brought together by a love of music and doing the right thing. The Oxjam festival series is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever and with big name acts like the Dewaele brothers all under one roof the launch party certainly proved that you can never have too many DJs on the night.
