You Can Play Splatoon With A REAL WATER GUN

IRL Splatoon is best Splatoon.

Inking someone in Splatoon is great fun, sure. But it's not quite the same as doing it FOR REAL with a paintball gun, right? Now the two have come together in an ultimate wearable experience.

Thanks to some tip-top geekery in Japan, the Splatoon game has been adapted to work with a water pistol and a Sony head-mounted display. If you want to give this a go you'll even need to strap the Nintendo Wii U GamePad to your back.

The cool kids over at Kougaku Navi created the setup that's *not quite* virtual reality. The headset is simply a screen so you're basically looking at a giant TV. The GamePad is worn on the back to measure where the gamer is facing. The gun itself contains controls to move forwards, backwards and to shoot, all wirelessly connected to the pad.

Not too much new kit has been used so this can technically be done by anybody with the right kit. You even just do it with a TV and the gun if you wanted.

Check out the video above to see the gaming goodness in action. Then visit the Kougaku guide to learn more and finally you can get to building your own, right?
