Spyro’s original name was Pete
Cute, but not quite as catchy.
He was originally supposed to be green
The only reason the developers changed Spyro to purple was because he was blending in too much with all the grass in the game.
And he was originally going to be an adult dragon
As the game developed, Insomniac Games decided to make him a cheeky youngster instead. Aww!
The trailer for the Spyro Reignited Trilogy was hidden in another game
Back when Spyro was just an ember in our eye, the demo for the original game was hidden away behind a secret cheat code in Crash Bandicoot. As a throwback to that, this trailer was hidden away in the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. PS4 players in Europe, Australia and Latin America can enter the code ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → SQUARE into their controllers in the Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped title screen to watch the Spyro Reignited Trilogy trailer.
Spyro’s levels were inspired by some of our fave movies
Cliff Town was inspired by Star Wars, Apocalypse Now inspired The Beast Makers Hub; and there are nods to Indiana Jones littered throughout the game.
The Skylanders team are behind the Spyro Reimagined Trilogy
Toys For Bob are the team who made Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, and now they’re making Spyro’s new outing!
A NASA scientist created Spyro’s aerodynamics
His glide is literally rocket science! To give him an authentic glide (or, as authentic as dragons can get), the development team of the original game hired a NASA rocket scientist to do the maths.
