JJ Abrams Backs Robert Wyatt For Star Trek 3

But outgoing director says threequel plans are still at the story stage...

JJ Abrams has discussed rumours that Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes director Robert Wyatt is being courted to direct the third film in his rebooted Star Trek franchise.
Speaking to HitFix, Abrams - who will be producing the movie - paid the filmmaker a hefty compliment but said there were more pressing matters before a director is appointed.
"He's incredibly talented and we'd be lucky to have someone as talented as Rupert. But there are things we're focusing on right now before the director, which is just sort of the fundamentals of where the story is gonna go.
"It's too early to talk about details but there have been a lot of really exciting ideas about what comes next.
"I plan to be involved in the story and producing the film and I feel very blessed to be involved at all."
Abrams has vacated the director's chair on the franchise [uuid=65bb9cc5-6858-4ea7-a305-dd65cfc728c0]after taking the job[/uuid] as director of Star Wars Episode VII.
