Justin Lin To Boldly Go And Direct Star Trek 3
Fast & Furious 6 filmmaker reportedly replacing Roberto Orci...
Justin Lin has reportedly been confirmed to take over as director of Star Trek 3.
According to Deadline, the Fast & Furious 6 filmmaker will be filling the folding chair vacated by Roberto Orci, who recently quit as director but will remain as a producer on the sci-fi threequel.
The site reports that several top directors were in contention for the job - although it was apparently only offered to Lin.
The first two movies in the rebooted Star Trek franchise were directed by JJ Abrams - but he has now departed to direct Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Lin is reported to be starting work on Star Trek 3 as soon as he has finished his directing duties on the second series of HBO's True Detective.
He is reported to have become available after a planned Bourne Legacy sequel with Jeremy Renner was put on ice - because Matt Damon is returning to star in that franchise.
