When you think Star Trek, you think excitement, adventure, and boldly going where no man has gone before. But if the latest trailer for Star Trek Beyond is any indication, the series is about to get a whole lot darker…

The third film in the rebooted Star Trek series, co-written by our very own Simon Pegg, and directed by Fast & Furious’ Justin Lin, looks like it’s taking a darker turn than the previous two movies, focusing on Kirk’s relationship with his father, and what looks like an impossible foe.

Plot details are fairly hazy, but from what we can tell, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine), Dr Spock (Zachary Quinto), Lt Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Dr Bones (Karl Urban) and the rest of the USS Enterprise crew are attacked by an unknown, ultra powerful enemy, and left stranded on a distant planet with no apparent means of escape. We’re guessing they need to race against time to get home and save the Federation, but, as it’s a Simon Pegg piece, there’ll be some laughs along the way.

Tell you the truth, we cannot wait to see this!
