May The Fashion Be With You: What To Wear On Star Wars Day
Swap the Jedi robes for these stylish ensembles on May the Fourth...
It’s been almost a decade since the last Star Wars film, Revenge of the Sith, hit cinemas but the intergalactic adventure series is more in vogue than ever thanks to an upcoming big-screen renewal of the franchise and a host of out-of-this-world collaborations.
This week’s Episode VII casting announcement – which revealed the return of the series’ original trio, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill plus a score of exciting newcomers – sent the Internet into a frenzy the likes of which have not been seen since the Avengers assembled in 2012, officially confirming Star Wars’ status as the hottest property in town.
But if you’re still feeling shy about showing your allegiance to the Rebel Alliance, take note that even the Fash Pack have been getting on board, with Luke Skywalker and co turning up on catwalks from London to New York during February’s Fashion Week.
It all started with uber cool label Rodarte, who showed off a collection of dresses themed to the Lucasfilm franchise (now owned by Disney), with scenes from the films printed onto romantic, flowing fabrics. Our favourite piece from the collection is a black Death Star gown, which would be just perfect for next year’s Episode VII world premiere. No wonder Hollywood hottie Natalie Portman – who, by the way, played Queen Amidala in Revenge of the Sith - is a huge Rodarte fan.
Then there’s hip British brand Preen, who went over to the dark side with a Darth Vader collection, sending models down the runway in a selection of shirts and dresses emblazoned with a print of Luke’s father while Stormtroopers partied backstage.
But if the high-end fashion houses are beyond your budget, there’s also a range of Star Wars themed high street options that won’t leave you short on Galactic Credits, from Uniqlo’s cheap ‘n’ cheerful comic-print tees to Vader leggings by WeLoveFine.
Or check out the ever-innovative, Australia-based Black Milk Clothing, who are currently offering 30% off across their rad range of intergalactic apparel, which includes Star Wars swimsuits and sports tops, and Her Universe, a brand created by Clone Wars actress Ashley Eckstein to cater exclusively for fangirls. We especially love the R2D2 dress modelled by Ashley herself, which will keep you beep-booping from dusk ‘til dawn.
So this Star Wars Day – celebrated annually on May the Fourth – ditch those Jedi robes in favour of a Yodalicious ensemble that will officially put the ‘star’ back in Star Wars.
