The sci-fi blockbuster has begun shooting...
The cast of Star Wars has officially been announced and it includes the series' original trio Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.
The film is being helmed by Star Trek director, JJ Abrams.
“We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII,” Abrams said in a statement on StarWars.com, which briefly crashed after the news broke of the casting announcement.
“It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”
Alongside the statement was posted a photograph of the cast doing a read through, which included Ford, Fisher and Hamill.
Also joining the trio are Lord of the Rings star Andy Serkis (better known as Gollum in the fantasy franchise), Girls actor Adam Driver and Harry Potter’s Bill Weasley, Domhnall Gleeson.
Relative unknowns Oscar Isaac, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley have also joined the cast, alongside returning Star Wars actors Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.
Star Wars Episode VII has begun pre-production at Pinewood Studios in London with a scheduled release date of 18 December, 2015. The last film in the franchise was Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, which came out in 2005.
