Star Wars Spin-Off Movie To Be Filmed In UK

Chancellor George Osborne announces that standalone film will shoot at Pinewood...

The first of the two planned Star Wars standalone movies will be filmed in the UK, it has been announced.

Chancellor George Osborne broke the news that the spin-off - set to be directed by British filmmaker Gareth Edwards - will be made at Pinewood Studios.

The famous movie lot is currently being used to make JJ Abrams' Star Wars Episode VII.

Osborne said in a statement: "Lucasfilm and Disney's decision to shoot the Star Wars standalone movie in the UK is testament to the incredible talent in Britain.

"This will mean more jobs and more investment. It is great news for people working at Pinewood Studios, from the set designers to the carpenters."

The politician also tweeted a snap of himself with Abrams, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy and iconic "droid" R2-D2.

Edwards' movie - which has yet to get a title or even a subject - is scheduled for release at the end of 2016.
