Travis McCoy Hits South Africa
MTV News catches up with the Staying Alive Ambassador...
Gym Class Heroes star Travis McCoy has started his 'life changing' 10 day, 3 country and 2 continent tour in aid of MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation.
Staying Alive, which is the world’s largest, youth focused, HIV and AIDS prevention campaign has set Travis the challenge of penning a song based on his experiences of the trip.
The singer, who is currently dating starlet Katy Perry arrived at the town Khayelitsha, just outside Cape Town in South Africa where he was greeted by Staying Alive grantee Bulelani Mvotho.
150 locals met McCoy, keen to impress the star with their dancing, singing and acting skills whilst Travie was also constantly mobbed by young children eager to meet the singer.
The Cupid’s Chokehold star told MTV News: “As poor as this place might look, every single kid I saw today had a smile on their face…the sense of community here is unbelievable”.
Travis will be gaining further inspiration for his exclusive Staying Alive charity track on the next stop on his journey, the Philippines.
When asked how the lyrics were coming along the singer joked: “My head is about to explode right now!”
