Steam's New App Lets You Play Your Steam Games On Your Phone

Here's how to play your Steam library of games and movies on your smartphone.

Valve has revealed plans to launch two new apps that will let players stream games and videos from Steam without an expensive Steam Link box.

Unsurprisingly, the app that'll let you stream to your smart TV and devices is called the Steam Link app, and the one that'll enable you to stream movies is the Steam Video app.

The first app - which will launch on May 21, 2018 - will work in much the same way as the Steam Link box does now.

"The Steam Link app, slated to launch the week of May 21st, allows gamers to experience their Steam library of games on their Android (phone, tablet, TV) and iOS-based (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV) devices while connected via 5Ghz network or wired Ethernet to a host system (Mac or PC), with Android access initially offered in beta," says Valve,"The Steam Link App will feature support for the Steam Controller, MFI controllers, and more across both platforms."

As for the Steam Video app? While that too is expected to release in the next few months, we don't have a specific release date as yet. The app hopes to allowusers to "enjoy the thousands of movies and shows available on Steam directly via their Android and iOS devices over Wi-Fi or LTE." And yes, there'll be an offline mode, too.

Wondering what else is new? Here’s our picks of the best games out - or coming! - in 2018.
