Stefy Live
The Orange County girl @ Islington Bar Academy
Californian pop kitten Stefy played a storming set last night in London despite a meagre crowd.
The star, who has a tight three-piece band with her when live, is rockier in person than on her new LP- The Orange Album. Tracks like Hey School Boy are enlivened by persistent synths as well as drums and guitar.
Stefys success was largely down to her playful expressions and canny acting. Not to mention the tight blue dress, fishnet tights and menacing boots the 22 year old was wearing.
On Orange Crush, and a new track they play, crunchy guitars dominate putting the singer up there with No Doubt and Yeah Yeah Yeahs in an indie rock way.
Recent single Chelsea, about a rival girl rather than the Russian football team, makes great use of Eurythmics Sweet Dreams. Overall the popstrel is good fun and is a superb performer.
Not only that but in between songs she asks if any of the guys in the crowd are single because she needs a date. Form an orderly queue gentlemen
