MTV Style: 10 Minutes With Singer, Model and Actress Lola Blanc
Meet the multi-talented, LA-based starlet...
Lola Blanc is a raven-haired hottie with a burgeoning social media presence and a string of catchy tunes. She dresses like a pastel-coloured 50s pin-up model, sounds a little like Taylor Swift and has already co-written a song with Britney Spears. As soon as we found out about her, we knew we had to get the Lola Blanc lowdown.
MTV UK: Hello Lola. Where are you right now?
Lola: I’m on my bed at my apartment in LA! I try to be on my bed as often as possible. It's kind of my office. My comfy, loungey office.
MTV UK: We hear you’re a bit of a fashionista. What trends do you think you’ll be rocking this summer?
Lola: I forgot it’s not summer yet! It’s kind of all the same here. I’ll be wearing lots of crop tops, matching coordinates that make me feel like I’m in TLC or Clueless, 50s cat eye sunglasses… and I know it’s not exactly summer-appropriate, but I’m still going to find a way to wear colorful fur and fluff every chance I get.
MTV UK: Do you have a ‘go to’ item of clothing- something that works with everything/you know you can rock at any time?
Lola: Probably my white crop top from American Apparel. It’s super basic but also super flattering and I can dress it up or down. I’m rarely happy with an outfit these days that doesn’t involve a bare midriff, so it comes in handy. I also have a great pair of shiny high-waisted black pants from Super Shop 24 Hours that goes with everything.
MTV UK: What’s the most embarrassing thing on your iPod?
Lola: Oh my god I was looking at my “recently listened to” artists on Spotify the other day, and it’s all ‘90s alt bands. Third Eye Blind, Counting Crows, Blink 182, other bands related to numbers. I guess I’ve been going through this wave of nostalgia for emotional alternative ‘90s songs! I’m not embarrassed though. They’re good songs.
MTV UK: What’s the most played song in your music library at the moment?
Lola: Probably I Need My Girl by the National, or Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell. I tend to listen to a lot of sad music.
MTV UK: Does it have anything to do with the music you’re making at the moment?
Lola: Not in the slightest. I’m on a summery hip hoppy kick with my own music right now. Until someone breaks my heart, and then I’m sure I’ll be channeling the National like it ain’t nobody’s business.
MTV UK: You have a lot of followers on Instagram. What are your suggestions for getting more Instagram followers?
Lola: Post often, post lots of pink stuff, and become friends with people who have lots of followers. Some people say hashtag everything or whatever but I’ve never really done that and it doesn’t seem to matter.
MTV UK: What are your tips on taking the perfect selfie? Is it all about the pout or is the head tilt just as important?
Lola: I feel like I suck at selfies. I literally take like 75 selfies that look exactly the same before I’m satisfied, and then I forget to delete them. If someone were to look through my phone’s images it would be highly embarrassing. However, I would say it’s all about the LIGHT. Tilt your head toward the light! Rid yourself of shadows! Also, as the ever-wise Tyra Banks would say, “Smize.”
MTV UK: You have a song called Bad Tattoo. Do you have any bad tattoos yourself?
Lola: I don’t! I’m tattoo-less. I think I’m going to keep it that way… I’m down with tattoo culture, but there’s something nice and pure about clean skin that I like on me.
MTV UK: One of the biggest female artists in the UK is called Lily Allen, are you a fan/have you heard of her?
Lola: Of course I've heard of her! I'm a fan. She’s the cleverest of them all.
MTV UK: She's just about to release an album called Sheezus, a homage to Kanye West. If you could release an homage album to anyone, who would it be and what would you call it?
Lola: Oh, good question. I actually know this. Pink Rain would be the name of my tribute to Prince. It's also the name of my hypothetical musical that I’m going to write the music for and one day star in.
MTV UK: You have an unusual upbringing - your father was a part of the CIA and your mother a ventriloquist. Do you think you're more of a spy than a puppet master, or vice versa?
Lola: Let’s say I’m more of a puppet master - getting people to do what I want them to do. Whatever Lola wants and all! Spies are cool too though. Can’t I be both?
MTV UK: Finally, where will Lola Blanc in two years time?
Lola: Ideally? Headlining a world tour! Or at least touring with Beyonce. I'll settle for that.
