Robyn Lawley: Kylie, The Hemsworth Brothers And All Things Aussie
Australian model Robyn Lawley shares the secrets of her homeland with MTV Style…
By Portis Wasp
Over the years the land Down Under has gifted the world many a beaut babe, with the likes of Elle ‘The Body’ Macpherson, Private School Girl Ja’mie King and pint-sized perm aficionado Kylie all finding a place in our hearts. However it’s only recently that we discovered an Australian export that has made our seemingly undying love for the Hemsworth brothers feel all kinds of trivial. We present to you, supermodel super-babe, Robyn Lawley.
Not only is this hottie built like a glamazon standing at 6’2” with a lush head of hair and curves in all the right places, Robyn is also a food blogger, wild animal tamer, DJ AND producer. She’s featured in Vogue and Elle, as well as starred in a Ralph Lauren campaign, but found time to talk all things Aussie with MTV Style.
MTV Style: Hello Robyn! How are you?
Robyn Lawley: I'm good, just landed after being stuck on a plane for 24 hours, so very happy to have some freedom.
MTV Style: Talk us through an average day in the life of you?
Robyn: Man I wish I knew; no day is average. I usually get up early and DJ and dance around my apartment, and then I'll go to yoga or something if I'm not working. Most of the time I'm working though.
MTV Style: We love your Robyn Lawley Eats Tumblr – if MTV Style was coming round for dinner, what would you cook us?
Robyn: Probably something comforting like a roast, followed by a decadent dessert; I like going all out for visitors.
MTV Style: If the conversation turned to which Hemsworth brother we prefer (as it probably would), who floats your boat more? Chris or Liam?
Robyn: Chris, Chris and more Chris.
MTV Style: So how does a model from Down Under like to dress during summer?
Robyn: Yeah I love wearing denim shorts with a worn-out tank top. Brands like ksubi or One Teaspoon make summer clothes easy, but spring is my favourite, as I can wear more layers of cool clothes.
MTV Style: It’s winter in Australia now though, isn't it? Which means you'll probably spent the rest of the day building snowmen, right?
Robyn: Haha no snowmen in Sydney, we would have to drive five hours out to the snowy mountains, but it does get a little chilly. Nothing compared to NYC. I feel like in a New York winter I wear my entire wardrobe every day and I'm still cold.
MTV Style: You starred in Kenneth Willardt's Size Does Matter exhibition alongside a number of adorable animals. Which animal was the most professional to work with?
Robyn: The owl surprisingly was so easy. Trying to wrangle the bunnies would have been funny to watch, but they actually liked me, because I'm sure I was soft and warm. The hardest by far was the octopus... Tendrils everywhere.
MTV Style: Having shot with a number of great photographers, who has been your favourite to work with and why?
Robyn: It's like naming a favourite movie… Impossible. They are all so different. I really appreciate a nice and easy-going photographer, one I can be friends with.
MTV Style: If you could describe the crazy life of a model with only one Kylie Minogue song lyric, which would you choose?
Robyn: ‘I guess I like it, like that’ or ‘I should be so lucky’. Does that work?
MTV Style: What Australian slang term would you use to describe Australia's national treasure... Hugh Jackman's abs?
Robyn: I could be wrong, but I don't think we have a term for abs, though we should. I'd call them ripple boulders, but we would pronounce it ripple bouldA, emphasizing the A.
MTV Style: Who is one of your favourite Aussie babes in the modelling industry?
Robyn: Elle Macpherson is still a mega babe and so is Megan Gale. Both exude self-confidence and great attitudes to work.
MTV Style: If you weren't so super at modelling, what would you be doing instead?
Robyn: Haha why thanks, I’d be producing and DJing. Cooking and photography. I'm doing all that on the side at the moment, but it would be awesome if producing and DJing became bigger than my modelling... Who knows?
MTV Style: What's the one job you'd love to book in the next year?
Robyn: I would really like to book some more weird and crazy editorials; it's like performance art except an entire crew is involved.
MTV Style: We couldn't end this interview without asking you a question we’re sure you've never been asked before... Home and Away or Neighbours?
Robyn: Ok, ok… I will admit I watched Neighbours.
