The Only ‘Shake It Off ‘Covers You Need To Hear
The Internet’s best Tay Swizz interpretations...
T-Swift's shutting the place down recently with her matchy matchy cho-ords and lyrics that may or not be about Harry Styles. She managed to accidently (?) trick Canada into making eight seconds of white noise with her name on it Number One on iTunes, before her new album 1989 came out on the 27th and actually went to number one in pretty much every country in the world.
The album's lead track Shake It Off brought 1989 as a concept album into the public domain via a million think pieces and a million gifs of Taylor attempting to twerk. It was only a matter of time before the rest of the Internet followed, as it has in its most flamboyant fashion. With our girl Kelly Clarkson leading the pack, here are its best offerings:
As one of the biggest purveyors of the All-American-Girl-Next-Door-Small-Town-Hero charm that we all know and love, it seems fitting that Kelly Clarkson took a shot at ‘Shake It Off’. If anybody knows about a break up anthem, it’s our girl Kel. Her take is tasteful and full of soul, side stepping the horns and rubz dancing and replacing it with power pipes and woman power.
If Kelly makes us want to join arms and shake it off, Miranda makes us want to drop our bags and run away. The red-lipped ladywonder has created this cringepowering cover so painful it almost makes us want to rip our eyes out. Taylor probably thinks it’s the kookiest thing ever, which is cool, but in reality we're just glad it doesn't last more than 90 seconds.
Groot vs Taylor Swift
We’re not really very sure what’s going on here. It looks like a shake off between a Marvel character and Taylor Swift. It also looks a little like Groot might be dominating, though we might be wrong.
Labrinth in the Live Lounge
Ooo Labrinth, you big smoothie you. This bespoke piece of bluesy Live Lounge magic is a welcome reminder that Labrinth might be the most fanciable man in British music. Adding his own “big up yourself” message at the end, we love Lab for taking the melting cheese out of Taylor’s original and replacing it with something much healthier.
Delta Sigma Phi, Shake It Off Lip Dub
This is a game of spot your university halls stereotype in disguise, though nevertheless a heart-warming tribute to Swifty by some chaps who look like they’ve spent too much time together.
Shan The Music Kid
Tear falls slowly down cheek as we weep with happiness.
