Jake Gyllenhaal 'Turns Down Suicide Squad Role'

Star reported to have said no to the part vacated by Tom Hardy...

Jake Gyllenhaal is reported to have turned down an offer to replace Tom Hardy in Warner Brothers' forthcoming Suicide Squad.

The 34-year-old star was reported to have been at the top of the studio's list for the role of Rick Flag in the anti-hero ensemble movie.

But Variety claims to have heard from several sources that the star of Nightcrawler and Brokeback Mountain has passed on the offer.

Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne are among the stars of the film - which is being directed by David Ayer and is set to enter production in April.

It tells the story of a group of convicted villains pressed into service for a mission deemed unacceptably dangerous for anybody else.

It is scheduled for release next August.
