Japanese Prime Minister Became Super Mario At The Rio Olympics Closing Ceremony And It Was Amazing

THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

Yes, you read that headline right. The actual Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, made an appearance at the Rio Olympics Closing Ceremony dressed as Super Mario.

Emerging from one of the Mario universe’s infamous green warp pipes, the Japanese PM provided the climax to an augmented reality video teasing the 2020 Olympics, which will take place in Tokyo.

If this nod to one of the world’s best-loved video game characters was a hint of what’s to come – Tokyo 2020 could be pretty special indeed. We can’t wait.
