Warner Bros Wins Superman Court Battle
Movie studio gets decision overturned as it prepares to launch Man Of Steel...
Warner Bros Pictures has won a key court case which it seems will allow them to make further movies based on the Superman universe.
The movie studio had previously lost a District Court case against the heirs of Superman creator Jerome Siegel in 2008, which had given Siegel's family the right to exploit certain elements of the Superman legacy.
But now Variety reports that the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal has overturned that decision - giving Warner Bros free rein to produce sequels to its eagerly awaited Man Of Steel reboot.
The studio said in a statement: "This is a great day for Superman, for his fans, for DC Entertainment and for Warner Bros.
"Today's ruling vindicates DC Comics' long-held position that it entered into a binding agreement with the Jerry Siegel family in 2001.
"The court's decision paves the way for the Siegels finally to receive the compensation they negotiated for and which DC has been prepared to pay for over a decade. We are extremely pleased that Superman's adventures can continue to be enjoyed across all media platforms worldwide for generations to come."
