A Definitive Ranking Of Every Song From Taylor Swift’s Album ‘1989’
‘Definitive’ meaning one person’s opinion, of course.
As soon as it was announced, fans were divided about the choice - with some hoping for something a bit more up-tempo and others basically just endlessly begging for ‘Out Of The Woods’.
After seeing this debate, we’ve decided to take matters into our own hands and rank ‘1989’ from its worst song to its best.
Obviously, the entire album is a masterpiece, but if we ever want to hear ‘New Romantics’ as a single (and we really, really do), then this is the sort of dramatic action we need to take.
Alright, deep breaths, this is happening…
16. This Love
This song is hella depressing if you’re single (and yes, we are single). NEXT.
OK this seems quite brutal because ‘Clean’ is a seriously well-written song, and we love the fact Imogen Heap features on it.
But the rest of this album is tough competition, and sadly, there’s bigger Taylor Swift-related fish to fry.
URGH, this is hard. Why did we decide to do this?
13. I Wish You Would
Great chorus, but the rest is a bit ‘meh’.
12. How You Get The Girl
The amount of arguments we’ve had with supposed ‘friends’ over this song is outrageous. Is it catchy in a bad way? Yes. Do we care? No.
11. Bad Blood
Despite the amazing video and Kendrick Lamar remix, this track should never have been a single. THERE, WE SAID IT.
10. You Are In Love
Fun fact: we have never listened to this song without crying.
9. All You Had To Do Was Stay
Congrats on making the Top 10, hun.
8. I Know Places
Such a sassy number. This would be a 10/10 music video.
7. Welcome To New York
Might seem a little smug if you don’t happen to live in New York, but still, an excellent bridge.
6. Out Of The Woods
Yes, this is a great song. But it is not the GREATEST song.
5. Wildest Dreams
We always start off thinking we don’t like this one, and then it starts playing on shuffle in the car and by the second chorus we’re screaming along to it.
4. Shake It Off
What a bloody comeback single.
Remember when you first heard this song and literally couldn’t deal with how smart Taylor was by working the whole Style/Styles angle? Such a genius.
2. Blank Space
All those lonely Starbucks lovers can’t be wrong.
1. New Romantics
Does this even need to be said? This song is iconic. This song deserves awards. This song needs to be A THING.
Come on Taylor, do us a solid. Make this magical bonus track (THIS WAS A BONUS TRACK) single number six.
...And then maybe release every other ‘1989’ song after that. Thanks!
