Is The Bad Blood Over? Taylor Swift Could Be Returning To Spotify
According to Spotify's Head of Music, Swift could be about to make a dramatic return...
Taylor Swift might just be making a dramatic return to Spotify. Two years ago, the ‘Bad Blood’ singer pulled her entire catalogue of music from the Swedish streaming giant’s libraries. But now, as revealed by Spotify’s Head of Music in a new interview, that might be about to change.
Speaking to Music Week, George Ergatoudis, Spotify’s Head of Music and formerly BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra’s Head of Music confirmed that he’d been in talks with Taylor’s label about bringing her catalogue back.
"Nothing's guaranteed, but I met up with [Big Machine president/CEO] Scott Borchetta personally and had that conversation with him," Ergatoudis said. "It's not a lock-in, but I've got every reason to be very optimistic Taylor Swift will be coming back to Spotify.
“I'm not saying it's done, but the indications are good, put it like that."
We’ll be the first to say yes, please can the bad blood end? We want to stream the hell out of 1989 all over again. And again. And again.
We're all so tired of everything
We wait for trains that just aren't coming
We show off our different scarlet letters
Trust me mine is better
We're so young
But we're on the road to ruin
We play dumb
But we know exactly what we're doing
We cry tears of mascara in the bathroom
Honey life is just a classroom
'Cause baby I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
Baby, we're the new romantics
Come on, come on along with me
Heartbreak is the national anthem
We sing it proudly
We are too busy dancing
To get knocked off our feet
Baby, we're the new romantics
The best people in life are free
We're all here
The lights and noise are blinding
We hang back
It's all in the timing
It's poker
He can't see in my face
But I'm about to play my ace
We need love
But all we want is danger
We team up
Then switch up sides like a record changer
The rumors are terrible and cruel
But honey, most of them are true
'Cause baby I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
Baby, we're the new romantics
Come on, come on along with me
Heartbreak is the national anthem
We sing it proudly
We are too busy dancing
To get knocked off our feet
Baby, we're the new romantics
The best people in life are free
So come on, come on along with me
The best people in life are free
Please take my hand, and
Please take me dancing, and
Please leave me stranded
It's so romantic
Oh, 'cause baby I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
'Cause baby I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream
Baby, we're the new romantics
Come on, come on along with me
Heartbreak is the national anthem
We sing it proudly
We are too busy dancing
To get knocked off our feet
Baby, we're the new romantics
The best people in life are free
Back in 2014, Taylor Swift was 24 when she decided to pull her entire back catalogue from Spotify, arguably the biggest source of music consumption in the world, in a row over music royalties.
At the time, Swift was one of Spotify’s most popular artists. It was a huge move, and could have proved costly for Swift. But, as we reported earlier today, Taylor Swift is actually 2016’s highest-paid musician, so obviously it didn’t. It didn't hurt her even a little bit.
