Taylor Swift has brushed off comparisons to pop icon Madonna in a new interview.

While chatting to to Associated Press after [uuid=22e37e48-c9a4-436d-8afa-f958d4ca4c85]opening her new US$4 million education centre[/uuid] in Nashville over the weekend, the 23-year-old was asked whether she sees herself as a "top pop star" like Madge.

The I Knew You Were Trouble songstress replied: "I would never see myself that way. I see myself as kind of this girl who writes songs in her bedroom."

T-Swizzle continued: "You can kind of dress it up all you want and you can put together an amazing theatrical production, you can become a better performer as time goes by, and you can try to excite people, but I'm always going to be a girl who writes songs in her bedroom in my own personal perception of myself."

Taylor added that she prefers not to focus on other people's perceptions of her as she feels she'd "just get completely lost in it".

Swift also picked up the prestigious 'Songwriter/Artist of the Year Award'from the Nashville Songwriters Association International for a record sixth time on Sunday (October 13).
