Taylor Swift fans have been gagging for new music from the superstar for weeks now and they will basically read into ANYTHING for proof that a new album is about to drop.

And now a simple style accessory has sent Swifters into overdrive as they speculate the fact that Tay wore a choker signals the imminent release of a new record.

The 26-year-old played her only concert of 2016 in Austin, Texas, last week and while fans may have been disappointed that she didn’t share brand new music at the gig (which had been speculated) they were keen to analyse everything that she did on stage for clues.

And one fan has sparked a so-bonkers-it-could-be-true theory that new music is imminent – because Taylor wore a choker on stage for the first time.

Taking to Twitter, a fan named Esther (who tweets via @swiftjai) sounded the fashion klaxon, exclaiming: ‘TAYLOR IS WEARING A CHOKER’.

When Yahoo! writer Mikelle Street asked why a choker should be relevant, Esther dropped this mind blowing theory: ‘She usually changes her fashion every time she releases her music, and she’s never worn [a choker] before. Every album means a new Taylor Swift ‘era,’ and the 1989 era has just finished and a new one is hopefully about to start!’

Amazing.

Rumours have been fuelled that The Swift is about to drop fresh beats on the unsuspecting public after Kesha hinted she was in the studio with her and Gigi Hadid also let slip that her BFF was hard at work on new material.

However, the star’s record label CEO, Scott Borchetta, did seem to kill all hope of a fresh album this year when he simply said ‘Nope’ when a fan tweeted him back in August to ask if we could expect a new album before 2017.
