Country pop superstarTaylor Swifthas invited an American teenager suffering from leukemia to be her date for the forthcoming Academy of Country Music Awards.
Initially 18-year-old Kevin McGuire's sister had asked Taylor, 22, via Facebook if she would accompany the New Jersey teen to his high school prom.
But the singer came up with a better idea and responded on her Facebook page.
She said: "Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom. But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up... Would you be my date?"
And Taylor's people have confirmed to MTV that the offer is for real. The ceremony is taking place in Las Vegas on April 1.
Kevin's sister Tori had started a campaign on Facebook to get Taylor to take Kevin to his prom, writing: "All throughout Kevin's treatment he kept his character intact, remained playing basketball, and even started varsity football as a freshman.
"Kevin is known throughout the community as the high school's 'real life SUPER MAN!' Tragically, Kevin had a relapse, and is now fighting cancer for the second time.
"Kevin is the kindest, most noble 18 year old a person could even fathom meeting, and throughout his ups and downs Kevin never even questioned 'why me?' Nothing, and I mean NOTHING brightens Kevin's day more than Taylor Swift. Kevin DESERVES more than anyone a special event in his life."
After reading Taylor's invitation Kevin told a newspaper: "Obviously I said yes."
And he added that the awards show "is a lot better than the senior prom".
