Is Taylor Swift Releasing Harry Styles Inspired Track Next Week?
The Shake It Off singer is teasing fans one clue at a time as she prepares to reveal a new song from her forthcoming album, 1989...
Taylor Swift loves a good puzzle, as she teases fans with a clue as to what she's about to reveal.
The singer posted a photo on Instagram with "5" and "Woods" with a picture of a forest, sparking fans to speculate that she will unveil the already-discussed track 'Out of the Woods' (which is allegedly about Harry Styles), in five days time.
Keen to make it clear this track will not be her next single, Swift tweeted: "To clarify, what is coming in the next few days is a new song that I think best represents #1989. It is NOT my next single. #ShakeItOff"
According to the Rolling Stone interview from Swift as she discussed her new album, 1989, "Out of the Woods" tells a "frantic tale of a relationship" that Taylor described as a struggle.
"Forget making plans for life – we were just trying to make it to next week," she said.
Got nothing in my brain
That's what people say, mm, mm
That's what people say, mm, mm
I go on too many dates
But I can't make 'em stay
At least that's what people say, mm, mm
That's what people say, mm, mm
But I keep cruisin'
Can't stop, won't stop movin'
It's like I got this music in my mind
Sayin' it's gonna be alright
'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off (hoo-hoo-hoo)
Heartbreakers gonna break, break, break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off (hoo-hoo-hoo)
I never miss a beat
I'm lightnin' on my feet
And that's what they don't see, mm, mm
That's what they don't see, mm, mm
I'm dancin' on my own (dancin' on my own)
I make the moves up as I go (moves up as I go)
And that's what they don't know, mm, mm
That's what they don't know, mm, mm
But I keep cruisin'
Can't stop, won't stop groovin'
Shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off (hoo-hoo-hoo)
Hey, hey, hey
Just think, while you've been gettin' down and out about the liars
And the dirty, dirty cheats of the world
You could've been gettin' down to this sick beat
My ex-man brought his new girlfriend
She's like, "Oh my God!" but I'm just gonna shake
And to the fella over there with the hella good hair
Won't you come on over, baby? We can shake, shake, shake (yeah)
Yeah, oh, oh
'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate (haters gonna hate)
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off (hoo-hoo-hoo)
Heartbreakers gonna break, break, break, break, break (mmm)
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake (and fake and fake and fake)
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off (hoo-hoo-hoo)
Shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off (yeah), I shake it off (hoo-hoo-hoo)
Shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off (you got to)
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
The track also references a snowmobile accident with one of her exes, who is assumed to be Styles, when they both ended up in A&E.
"Remember when you hit the brakes too soon/ Twenty stitches in a hospital room," Swift sings.
The song is co-written by Fun's Jack Antonoff, who has already told fans on Twitter it is "one of the most important things I've ever been a part of."
To further speculation, fans who were lucky enough to attend the Taylor Swift 1989 listening party can't stop tweeting about 'OotW'.
1989 is set for release in the UK October 27.
