Taylor Swift Wins Groping Lawsuit Against Radio DJ
Taylor has since released a statement focussing on privilege.
Taylor Swift has won her lawsuit against radio DJ David Mueller who she accused of groping her during a meet and greet back in 2013.
The singer won a symbolic $1 but more importantly the chance to make sure those voices which aren’t always heard in sexual assault situations are no longer ignored.
Releasing a statement following the news, Taylor explained that she’s fully aware that this outcome, sadly, just isn’t always the case.
"I want to thank Judge William J Martinez and the jury for their careful consideration, my attorneys Doug Baldridge, Danielle Foley, Jay Schaudies and Katie Wright for fighting for me and anyone who feels silenced by a sexual assault, and especially anyone who offered their support throughout this four-year ordeal and two-year long trial process.
"I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this. My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organisations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves."
On Friday the judge threw Mueller’s case out, after he tried to claim that Taylor’s claims caused him to be fired.
“I’ve been trying to clear my name for four years,” Mueller said after the news. “Civil court is the only option I had. This is the only way that I could be heard.”
While Taylor has been receiving an outpouring of celebrity support, including Kesha who admiration via a powerful statement.
“I support you always, and especially right now and admire your strength and fearlessness. truth is always the answer,” she said.
And we couldn’t agree more.
