Terry Crews has put himself firmly in the frame to play Luke Cage in the Netflix adaptation of the Marvel Comics series.

The star of The Expendables 3 and Brooklyn Nine-Nine told Digital Spy that he "would be honoured" and "privileged" to play the comic book hero.

Netflix is planning a series of online-only adaptations with Marvel - the first of which is Daredevil, due next year.

"It could be, I'm waiting for a call from Marvel. I mean, I haven't heard anything but if I could and if it worked into the schedule.

"But I have to say it's something I would be privileged and honoured to do. Luke Cage is up there with Superman for a lot of people."

Cage first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1972, at the time of the Blaxploitation movie boom.
