The writers of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have defended the decision to include several villains in the movie.
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have told MTV that Electro, the Rhino, Norman and Harry Osborn are all essential to the plot of the superhero sequel.
It stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spidey, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn.
Speaking to us at the premiere of Star Trek Into Darkness, Kurtzman insisted that careful thought had gone into the inclusion of all the villains.
"I think you have to go into it and say, 'is this character essential to the story or are you just throwing him in for no reason whatsoever'," he explained.
The film is set for release next May.
