MTV Review | The Babadook

You can't get rid of The Babadook! We give our verdict on Jennifer Kent's horror flick right here...

UK Release Date:October 24

Certificate:15

Running Time:93mins

Cast:Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman,Daniel Henshall

Director:Jennifer Kent

Plot:Six-year-old Samuel is an endearingly odd child who lives with his mother in a cold and eerie house. Of course he does. This is, after all, a horror film. Add in the emotional ramifications of a missing father and husband - killed while driving his pregnant wife to the hospital delivery room – and the unsettling scene is set. When a book turns up on Samuel’s shelf describing how to conjure up a mysterious creature called The Babadook, things soon spiral into an eerie, creepy and unsettling nightmare. Let’s just say he’s not the most sociable of beings. Can mother and son defeat The Babadook before it tears them apart? CUE DRAMATIC MUSIC.

Best Scene:When you finally see the Babadook in the basement, and Amelia (mother) really starts to lose her sh*t.

Best One Liner: Babadoooooooooooooook (in an incredibly low and creepy voice)

Date Movie or Mate Movie:Classic date movie – the ‘I’m so scared I need to cuddle you’ move never fails.

WTF Moment:The Babadook drives Amelia to do some very strange things… what did the dog ever do!?

Summary:Exhaustingly tense and wonderfully scary. A proper horror film with a perfect blend of heart and scare. It reels you in, makes you care (hell, even laugh), before the inevitable jump, squeal and scream. Ba – Ba - Doooooooook……
