The Beatles Top All Time Singles Sales Chart
Fab Four take pole position in specially commissioned list...
The Beatleshave been named as the biggest-selling singles act in UK chart history, beating Elvis Presley into second spot and Sir Cliff Richard into third.
Madonna and Michael Jackson took fourth and fifth spots respectively in the special Top 60 chart of singles sales covering the past 60 years.
The chart was broadcast yesterday on BBC Radio 2, and Rihannawas the only young act to break into the top 10 - at number 10.
The rest of the top 10 was made up of Sir Elton John in sixth, Queen in seventh, ABBAin eighth and David Bowie at number nine.
Jeff Smith, Head of Music at Radio 2, said: "This list is intriguing; Shakin' Stevens, Boney M and UB40 were in the UK in the '70s and '80s."
