BRITs 2018: Dua Lipa Brings ‘New Rules’ To Life
The International Female Solo Artist winner brought the house down...
The 2018 BRIT Awards belongs to Miss Dua Lipa.
Not only is the British superstar the most-nominated artist of the evening but her performance of ‘New Rules’ has completely stolen the show.
The badass rule-breaker brought the smash hit’s iconic video to life with a performance dripping in swag and female empowerment.
Talkin' in my sleep at night, makin' myself crazy
(Out of my mind, out of my mind)
Wrote it down and read it out, hopin' it would save me
(Too many times, too many times)
My love
He makes me feel like nobody else, nobody else
But, my love
He doesn't love me, so I tell myself, I tell myself
One: Don't pick up the phone
You know he's only callin' 'cause he's drunk and alone
Two: Don't let him in
You have to kick him out again
Three: Don't be his friend
You know you're gonna wake up in his bed in the mornin'
And if you're under him, you ain't gettin' over him
I got new rules; I count 'em
I got new rules; I count 'em
I gotta tell them to myself
I got new rules; I count 'em
I gotta tell them to myself
I keep pushin' forwards, but he keeps pullin' me backwards
(Nowhere to turn) No way
(Nowhere to turn) No
Now I'm standin' back from it, I finally see the pattern
(I never learn, I never learn)
But, my love (Love)
He doesn't love me, so I tell myself
I tell myself, I do, I do, I do
One: Don't pick up the phone
You know he's only callin' 'cause he's drunk and alone
Two: Don't let him in
You have to kick him out again
Three: Don't be his friend
You know you're gonna wake up in his bed in the morning
And if you're under him, you ain't gettin' over him
I got new rules; I count 'em
I got new rules; I count 'em
I gotta tell them to myself
I got new rules; I count 'em
I gotta tell them to myself
Practice makes perfect
I'm still tryna learn it by heart
(I got new rules, I count 'em)
Eat, sleep and breathe it
Rehearse and repeat it, 'cause I
(I got new, I got new, I...)
One: Don't pick up the phone
You know he's only callin'
'Cause he's drunk and alone (Yeah, alone)
Two: Don't let him in
You have to kick him out again (Oh, ooh)
Three: Don't be his friend (Again)
You know you're gonna wake up
In his bed in the mornin' (Bed in the mornin')
And if you're under him, you ain't gettin' over him
I got new rules; I count 'em
I got new rules; I count 'em
(Whoa-ooh, whoa, whoa)
I gotta tell them to myself
I got new rules; I count 'em
(Baby, you know I count 'em)
I gotta tell them to myself
Don't let him in, don't let him in
Don't, don't, don't, don't
Don't be his friend, don't be his friend
Don't, don't, don't, don't
Don't let him in, don't let him in
Don't, don't, don't, don't
Don't be his friend, don't be his friend
Don't, don't, don't, don't
You gettin' over him
Backed by an army of women in silk dressing gowns, she recreated the visual’s narrative and it was absolutely epic. Also, we reckon it might’ve been necessary as the star is newly single. What ex, right Dua?
With the freedom of no handheld mic, the ‘IDGAF’ singer served up major choreography and took over the stage like the fierce queen she is.
Pitch perfect vocals while lying down? Check. Pitch perfect vocals while JUMPING UP AND DOWN? Check. Giant flamingo? CHECK.
This was, without a doubt, the best Dua Lipa performance to date. She delivered pop star, high-budget BRITs and gave us everything we needed.
The bar has been set for the rest of the night and it is sky high. Bravo, Dua!
