Over the past few weeks they've been edging closer and closer to the top of the chartsbut today The Chainsmokers and Halsey can finallycelebrate their first ever UK No.1 single with 'Closer'!

Last Sunday, the dance duo and the 'BADLANDS' babe took to the VMAs stage for a steamy performance of their collab, sending us wild and apparently the charts too as they edge out Major Lazer, Justin Bieber andMØ's 'Cold Water', which had been No.1 for five weeks.

Alex of the duo, who earlier this year headlined our Club MTV Crashes Coventry eventtold 'OfficialCharts.com':"Well this is awesome ‘cause Ihave a lot of family in the UK that don't have a clue what I have been doing for the last 10 years so this will make waves during the holidays this year.

"But in all seriousness this is an amazing achievement for us. We are beyond grateful at all the support from our UK fans and radio stations; as a relatively new artist, it means a lot to us and gives us a lot of confidence in the music we have coming up!"

Meanwhile in today's Official Albums Chart, Britney Spears had to settle with No.2 as her latest offering 'Glory' was scuppered by musical icon Barbra Streisand who entered straight in at No.1 with her THIRTY-FIFTH studio album, 'Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway' - her seventh Official UK No.1 album.

Last week's No.1, Frank Ocean's 'Blonde' slips to No.4, Dolly Parton's 'Pure & Simple' falls two places to No.4 and twenty one pilots' 'Blurryface' climbs to a new personal best at No.5
