Shailene Woodley has admitted that she wrote to the author of The Fault In Our Stars, begging him to allow the book to be made into a film.
The actress, who plays the lead in the movie, told CNN that she penned a letter to John Green to explain that a big screen version could "change the lives of millions of people".
"I didn't say I needed to be Hazel [her character]. I said I needed this movie to get made. Because I knew that it would change the lives of millions of people."
The author said her request wasn't a short one either!
John Green added in the interview: "The letter was extremely long, like 40 pages long, and I didn't technically know who Shailene Woodley was.
"So I just responded like, 'That's such a lovely e-mail! Thank you so much! But I am not a casting director'.
"And then when I saw her audition, of course I was horrified that I had not written her back and said, like, 'Please! Please! Be in our movie!'"
The film has topped the US Box office after its release last week.
It's made $48.2m so far, making it the best-ever debut for a contemporary drama.
