The Go! Team Live

We saw the Proof Of Youth group on the NME Freshers Tour, read our review here

The Go! Team are fans of MTV.co.uk. We know this because last time a review of the Brighton group was posted we wrote:

Frontwoman MC Ninja is sassy and energetic, infact if she teamed up with M.I.A's producers she'd be as big as any female rapper around.

Days later it was announced that Ninja is working with Richard X knob twiddler for Sugababes, Kelis and, er, M.I.A.

A month after we last praised The Go! Team they played Londons Astoria venue for the NME Freshers Tour and made up for dire support band The Satin Peaches.

Arriving on stage to strobes the six-piece run through much of their second album Proof Of Youth and their superb debut Thunder, Lightning Strike.

Their trademark distortion goes too far during The Power Is On but Ladyflash is riotous with Ninja (in stripy knee high socks) revealing a stunning singing voice.

Other highlights from the Teams debut are Bottle Rocket and Everyones A VIP To Someone which, with its banjo and harmonica, is spine tingling.

Their love of the old school is emphasised by the grainy film and Atari video game visuals behind the stage. The best thing about The Go! Team though is that theyre so hard to categorise.

Its kind of distorted grunge, hip hop with recorders and two drummers. And for all that it mostly sounds great
