Like the SAG Awards, the Golden Globes split up the Best Actor/Actress awards into drama and musical/comedy. Unsurprisingly, many of those nominated for SAG awards also cropped up as Golden Globes nominees.
In the drama category, Matthew McConaughey and Tom Hanks both received nods again, this time alongside Idris Elba for his portrayal of Nelson Mandela. In the musical/comedy category, Leo DiCaprio will face off against Christian Bale and Joaquin Phoenix for Best Actor.
The Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress in a Drama were almost identical to the SAG list, with Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Emma Thompson and Judi Dench all nominated. Only Kate Winslet is the odd one out, scoring a Golden Globe nod thanks to Meryl Streep being nominated for Best Actress in the musical/comedy category.
Both Jennifer Lawrence and Julia Roberts again scored nominations for Best Supporting Actress while J-Law’s ex, Bradley Cooper, and X-Men co-star, Michael Fassbender, were both nominated for Best Supporting Actor alongside 30 Seconds to Mars’ Jared Leto.
In the television categories, Zooey Deschanel and Lena Dunham were both nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy while Jim Parsons scored another nod for his role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory.
The Big Bang Theory was also nominated for Best Comedy TV Series where it will battle it out with Girls and Modern Family, among others, for the award.
The Golden Globes winners will be announced on 12 January 2014 at a star-studded awards ceremony hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Stay tuned!
