The Great Gatsby Opens Cannes Film Festival

Stars brave rain as annual industry shindig begins on French Riviera...

A screening of The Great Gatsby has opened the Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera, with the movie's stars in attendence.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire were joined on a slightly soggy red carpet amid rain storms by director Baz Luhrmann, Nicole Kidman, Steven Spielberg and more industry luminaries.

The F Scott Fitzgerald adaptation opened two weeks ago in the US and has already proved a hit with audiences there. It is not in competition at Cannes.
The festival runs until 26 May and jurors' prizes will be announced on the closing night.
Ryan Gosling's new movie Only God Forgives will [uuid=6138dfc4-b893-4e6d-b2a1-ae657abb0ff1]get its premiere at the festival[/uuid] - and is in the main competition.
