10 Times The Hills Taught Us Everything About Life

Hard to believe it’s been a DECADE since the beautiful people of The Hills first effortlessly strolled across our TV screens clutching their Chanels handbags...

It's hard to believe it’s been a DECADE since the beautiful people of 'The Hills'first effortlessly strolled onto our TV screens, clutching theirChanel arm candy...

Btw by strolled, wemean sat in an LA club, obvs. And by effortlessly, we mean many-a hair extensions/personal training sessions/tenproceduresinonedaylater. And by people, wemainly meanSpeidi.

BUT WE'RE NOT CYNICAL, OK?

For those that aren't familiar with what can only be described as the greatest reality TV show of all time (OK, we're a tad biased), 'The Hills' was aspin-off show detailing the life of Lauren Conrad (who we watched graduate high school on MTV’s 'Laguna Beach') and her pals as they tried to make it in the 'real'world of LA.

So here we are, feeling all nostalgic as we remember those hungover Sundays at uni where Natasha Bedingfield's vocals reverberated on the remaining vodka/soda mixer from the night before. And despite the totally guilty pleasure of swooning over Brody Jenner and Justin Bobby at every opportunity - we're going to acknowledge that there were actually a few life lessons we learned along the way...

1. The art of forgiveness

When Speidi started a vicious rumour involving LC and her ex-Jason, all hell broke loose across our TV screens. Too many dramatic silences, not enough b*tchy comments and a few drinks thrown later, Lauren and Heidi sat down to talk it through (in a club, naturally). And then Lauren delivers what is one of the most epic one-liners in history:“I want to forgive you… and I want to forget you”. Harsh. But oh-so-fair.

2. Scripted reality is legit a realthing

Lo and behold, awhole new genre of TV was born! Everyone talked about it being fake but we just didn’t want to believe it. OBVS these guys were best friends in real life. No one could write that much crazy into a script. WeWANTED it all to be true! But alas, the final scene of the show unfolded, the camera pans out and the set came into shot - we had to accept the truth. Our lives would be changed forever.

3. Energy drinks arenot just for exam cramming

Never before had we entertained the thought of pounding an energy drink to get us started on a night out. But needs must when it's your job to go raving in the best clubs in LA every single night. The struggle is real, people.

4. The most important moments in your life will probably happen in a club

When you spot your boyfriend misbehaving, when you confront your best friends for spreading vicious rumours (see life lesson #1), when you’re told you’re too good for the guy you’re dating (ref: Justin Bobby, "homeboy wore combat boots to the beach!"). Well, er, obvs. Anyway, it ALL happens in da club.

5. Girls can be bat-sh*t crazy

From Heidi trying to 'trick'Spencer into getting her preggo(it was all a little suspect when she decided to cook for the first time EVER), the girls starting rumours that Kristen was on drugs because she liked to wear sunglasses and when Stephanie ‘confronts’ Lauren in an attempt to defend her wayward bro (in a club - naturally). DO NOT TRUST ANYONE. ESPECIALLY OTHER GALS.

6. Having a job can be tough *sigh*

Slightly before Heidi went all loco on us, she actually held some respect amongst us viewersas a working woman. *sings* working 9-5, etc, etc... *sings*.Granted, she did the bare minimum to get by, and made snide remarks every time she had to fetch her boss lunch (who wouldn't?), but she legithad an actual job. And then she sneakily went above Elodie's head to steal her promotion. The cheek of it. Poor ol’ Elodie. The Real World is HARD#fact.

7. Managing humility

When Whitney (who was clearly wasting away steaming clothes as a 'Teen Vogue' intern) was given the chance to model the dress Hillary Swank wore to the Oscars, we were all SOproud. And on live TV! But then we watched her take a very unceremonious tumble on the screen...through our screens. HOW COULD THIS BE SCRIPTED?? IRL of course this would have been the most awks thing ever but she handled it with such style - such finesse! Go Whitters!

8. The value in taking some time out

An afternoon stroll. A spinning class. An impromptu weekend in Vegas. You know the drill!

9. Squad goals

Yep, even before T. Swift made having girlfriends a 'thing',we saw the value in a squad. Ok soHeidi and Lauren had an epic fall out and a less than spectacular reconciliation which was a totes emosh roller coaster. And then of course Lo came into the picture and fractured LC and Adriana’s twosome - but they all came together in the end. YASSS! #sistersbeforemisters

10. The future is bright

Who knows what tomorrow will hold? The chance to crash a 'Teen Vogue 'party? Perhaps the opportunity to dress Lady Gaga?!Let us all take a little inspo from Natasha Bedingfield and remember, 'today is where you book begins, the rest is still unwritten..' #micdrop
