The Hobbit Sequel Leads Empire Awards Nominations

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug has emerged as the leader in nominations for the 2014 Jameson Empire Awards.

Organised by the UK movie magazine and sponsored by the Irish whiskey brand, the annual gong show recognises both British and international films.

Peter Jackson's Middle Earth sequel notched up seven nominations, while Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave was close behind with six and Captain Phillips and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire both had five apiece.

And those four movies will duke it out for the Best Film award, along with sci-fi movie Gravity.

Director Paul Greengrass is also set to received the Empire Inspiration Award in recognition of his latest movie Captain Phillips and his previous body of work - which includes The Boune Identity and sequels.
