Horrors: "The Automatic are Boring"
And they tell all just hours before lining up to play alongside them
Ever since The Automatic said The Horrors were "crap," "over-hyped" and just have "big hair" things haven't been exactly friendly between the two groups.
Despite this they both lined up to play the last night of the Shockwaves NME Awards Indie Rock Tour at the Brixton Academy last Friday (23rd February) - and we're surprised it didn't end in fisticuffs.
Just hours before they went on stage, Horrors keyboardist Spider Web told MTV.co.uk "I don't enjoy their music and I find them boring. Although, I'm not in the business of starting up arguments."
In response to their Welsh rivals' claims that the Horrors are all style over substance, Web said, "Clothes and style are a part of the music history " Screaming Jay Hawkins, James Brown " the heritage of rock 'n' roll and blues " they all paid attention to the way they came across.
"I'm just sick of the jeans and t-shirt thing at the moment. I have to say that I find modern music bland and boring."
Since getting on stage for the first time in 2005, to just "play some wild sounds really," the Horrors have rocketed to fame and fortune though their first album is yet to hit the shops.
So aside from criticism from other bands, are the eyeliner-loving troupe feeling any pressure on the new disk with all this hype?
Web told us, "No, I'm really happy with it " it's going to be a weight off our shoulders to be honest. It's the statement we've been wanting to make. But it's not super radio friendly, it's not a bunch of singles tied together, it's an album. Yeah, it's The Horrors - we'll always be The Horrors."
I'm sure the Automatic will be pleased
