Hunger Games Actress Calls Out Taylor Swift & Katy Perry For Appropriating 'Black Culture'

The thought-provoking video name checks some of the biggest chart-toppers of the moment...

Having already made us shed a tear in The Hunger Games as little Rue, Amandla Stenberg has now proved she's more than just a 16-year-old actresswith thiseloquent speech on a subject close to her heart.

The LA native gives a powerful lesson on cultural appropriation, as she calls out the likes of Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift for taking on hip-hop tendencies without respecting the culture they're copying.

“The line between cultural appropriation and cultural exchange is always going to be blurred, but here’s the thing: appropriation occurs when a style leads to racist generalizations or stereotypes of where it originated, but is deemed ‘high fashion’, ‘cool,’ or ‘funny’ when the privileged take it for themselves,” she explains.

The actress ends her message by noting that the moment white stars take these trends for themselves,is the moment it turns intoappropriation and not exchange.

Amandla leaves viewers with the question: What would America look like if we loved black people as much as we love black culture?
