Don’t Freak Out But You Could Be Playing Zelda In VR Soon

Hyrule in virtual reality IS EVERYTHING.

It's official, Nintendo is looking into virtual reality gaming. Yup, that could mean playing in the first person as Link in Zelda or Mario himself, soon.

According to reports from Twitter, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto said the company was "researching VR" so it has "the core technology." So developed is the research that Ninty is even finding bumps along the development road that it'll need to overcome.

"Long play sessions are an issue," Miyamoto reportedly said. "We want to release somethingthat can be played for long periods, carries value, and is affordable. We want parents to feel at ease." Aiming at long play sessions suggests Nintendo will be making the virtual reality gaming available for deeply immersive open world titles like Zelda.

We're not holding our breath for Zelda: Breath of The Wild coming in VR, but there could be an adapted version down the line. Perhaps we will see VR appear with Nintendo's next console, the Nintendo NX. This is expected to appear in March 2017.

Sony is set to offer PlayStation VR while Microsoft is working on VR for the Xbox so it would make sense for Nintendo to follow soon with it's own offering.
